Privacy Policy

Short version: I track as little as possible. And I don’t even look at most of that.

Analytics

I don’t use any analytics on the site except on the blog K-Squared Ramblings, which uses a local-only stats package (Statify), so it’s not sharing with Google, Automattic, or anyone else. Even my webhost’s server logs are only kept for a couple of weeks, and only used for troubleshooting.

Comments and Subscriptions

If you leave a comment on the blog (or a pingback, trackback or webmention), we’ll store the name, website, and email address you provide, along with the IP address used to make the comment. The email address will not be published. We use local-only spam filtering (Antispam Bee). The blog will also save your name/website/email to pre-fill comments on other posts, but will not share it with anyone else.

We no longer offer email subscriptions to the blog.

In the past, we used Jetpack for stats and related posts, Akismet for spam filtering, and WordPress.com for email subscriptions, all of which are covered by Automattic’s privacy policy.

Cross-Posting and Replies

When I move a post from one site to another (ex. one of my old LiveJournal posts to my current blog, or from my blog to my tech tips or reviews collections), I’ll sometimes move comments with it.

I’ve also set up the blog to pull in public replies from some places where I tend to cross-post. It doesn’t always work, but when it does, it’ll import a public reply to a cross-post on Flickr, or Mastodon, or Bluesky as a comment on the blog. In the past, I’ve used similar plugins to consolidate replies from Facebook and Twitter.

Direct replies to the Fediverse view of a blog post are effectively the same as direct comments.

Very occasionally, I’ll import a reply manually. These days I’m more likely to cite/link/quote the original as part of an update that includes my response.

Third-Party Tracking

I stopped using remote components like share buttons or remotely-hosted scripts a few years ago. So there shouldn’t be anything leaking that way. And I usually try to quote instead of embed when I’m replying to someone else’s post. But it’s hard to do that with, say, a YouTube video, and embedded content on another site can potentially collect info or track you. How much depends on what web browser you’re using and what privacy settings you have. (I recommend Firefox, Waterfox or Vivaldi with tracking protection in strict mode for most browsing.)

Deleting Your Info

If you want your comments removed, please email webmaster@kvibber.com and I’ll get to it as soon as I can. (Please use a working email address so I can reply in case I need to ask you for clarification.)
